Katharina Ludwig (DAE 2009, Eindhoven)
Important issues in Ludwig's designs are the steadiness and the
alternation of society and human being; human values related to
detectable and tangible tendencies of time and surrounding. The
product-like objects can be experienced physically and reflect actual
topics, personal as well as cultural.
Characteristic for her work are the attractive hand-craft made designs
and at the other hand the prickly subjects. Like soft animal toys
combined with sharp grown-up tools or a decorative necklace of hosting
parasites. Beauty in combination with infection, or jewels of ice
cubes: after a while a trace of water and only a frame remain. Not
with the intention to be repulsive, but to communicate and encourage
the involvement of objects and subjects in mankind's surrounding.
The work is not pur sang design; it's a combination of design, art and 3D
illustration, applying techniques from different times and origins.
